Refurbished iPhone 13 in India: what to check before you pay — GradeGuard guide

Apple stopped selling the iPhone 13 two years ago, and it is still on Apple’s own list of phones that run iOS 27. That gap between “old” and “finished” is what makes it one of the better refurbished buys in India right now.

Here is what the phone still does well, what genuinely wears out on this model, what a fair price looks like this week, and the checks to run before any money changes hands.

Apple still supports it, whatever the price sites say

Start with the fact that decides everything else. Apple’s support page listing iPhone models compatible with iOS 27 names the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini. A phone that launched in 2021 is running the current version of iOS in 2026.

This matters because the pages Indian buyers land on are often wrong about it. One popular price-tracker page for the iPhone 13 says right now that “this phone’s software support window has officially closed”. Apple’s list says it has not. Trust the list.

What the hardware still gives you

From Apple’s own iPhone 13 technical specifications:

  • A 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen
  • The A15 Bionic chip
  • A dual 12MP rear camera — Main and Ultra Wide — with Cinematic mode and Photographic Styles
  • A 12MP front camera, and Face ID through the TrueDepth camera
  • IP68 water resistance, rated to a maximum depth of 6 metres for up to 30 minutes
  • Dual SIM: one nano-SIM plus eSIM, or dual eSIM

For calls, UPI, WhatsApp, Maps, video and family photos, none of that is a compromise in 2026.

Two things it will never do

The first is Apple Intelligence. Apple’s India page for Apple Intelligence lists the iPhone 15 Pro as the oldest model that supports it. The iPhone 13 is not on that list, and no update will put it there. If the AI features are the reason you want an iPhone, this is the wrong phone.

The second is USB-C. The iPhone 13 uses a Lightning connector. Every USB-C cable in your house is the wrong cable, so plan on buying Lightning cables and keeping a spare. Sellers rarely mention this, and it is a real running cost.

What wears out on this model

The battery. On a phone this age, treat a battery replacement as a cost you may pay, not a surprise. Apple India does not print a fixed price for it — its battery service page says only “we’ll need to inspect your product to provide a personalized estimate”, so any figure you see quoted as “Apple’s price” is somebody’s guess. Independent repair chains do publish theirs: iTweak, an independent Apple repair service, lists ₹4,199 for an iPhone 13 battery replacement with a six-month warranty, on a page last updated 19 August 2026.

The screen. Same story: Apple’s screen repair page gives an estimate only after inspection. iTweak lists ₹17,699 for an OEM-quality iPhone 13 display with a one-year warranty, and ₹11,499 for a standard-quality panel with six months. Those numbers are the point: on a phone selling used for under ₹30,000, one bad screen can cost half the phone.

The Lightning port. Five years of pocket lint and cable-yanking land here. Test charging with your own cable before you pay, not the seller’s.

The seal. The IP68 rating applies to the phone as Apple built it. Once a phone has been opened for any repair, the adhesive seal is not the original one, and the rating no longer means what the spec sheet says.

What a fair price looks like today

Apple publishes no discontinuation date; Wikipedia records the iPhone 13 being discontinued on 9 September 2024, alongside the iPhone 15 Pro. So there is no official new price any more, and the “new” figures on price-tracker sites disagree wildly — one lists 128GB at ₹43,499 while flagging new stock as discontinued, another shows ₹49,900 and “Out of Stock”. Ignore them. The refurbished street price is the only honest benchmark.

WhatPrice
Launch price, India, September 2021 (Apple)₹79,900
Refurbished 128GB, Budli, today₹26,999
Refurbished 128GB, Cashify, today₹28,699
Refurbished 256GB, Budli, today₹28,999

So a clean, fully working 128GB iPhone 13 sits in the ₹26,000 to ₹29,000 band. Above ₹30,000 you are paying newer-phone money for a 2021 phone — and at that point our note on the refurbished iPhone 13 versus the iPhone 14 is worth five minutes. Well below the ₹26,999 Budli charges for a 128GB unit today, stop and ask why. A swapped screen, a replaced battery or an IMEI you do not want are the usual reasons an iPhone 13 goes cheap.

The checks to run before you pay

  1. The IMEI. Dial *#06# on the handset itself, then run the free government check. Our step-by-step walkthrough is here: CEIR IMEI check. Do this on any used phone, from any seller, including us.
  2. Activation Lock. Take the phone to the setup screen. If it asks for somebody else’s Apple Account, the phone is locked to them and is worth spare parts and nothing else. No seller can unlock it for you later.
  3. Parts and Service History. Open Settings, tap General, then About. Apple’s Parts and Service History page explains what you see: on iPhone 12 models and later this covers the battery, display, logic board, front camera and rear cameras. “Genuine” means Apple parts and process. “Unknown” appears when a part is not genuine or is not working as expected. “Unverified” on the logic board can affect features such as Apple Pay.
  4. The screen itself. Apple warns that a non-genuine display can mean “Multi-Touch may not respond on parts of the screen”, degraded touch, True Tone not working, and an ambient light sensor that dims or brightens wrongly. Drag an icon slowly into all four corners. Our guide to telling an original display from an aftermarket one has the rest.
  5. Face ID, both ways. Register your own face, then lock and unlock five times, indoors and in daylight.
  6. The boring ones. Every button. Both cameras, front and rear, stills and video. Speaker, earpiece and mic on a real call. Wi-Fi and mobile data on your own SIM.

What Apple has not flagged on this model

Two quiet good-news facts most guides skip. Apple’s service programs page lists no repair, exchange or recall programme for any iPhone 13 — the only current iPhone entry is the iPhone 14 Plus rear camera programme. And Apple’s vintage and obsolete products list does not carry the iPhone 13 either; Apple counts a product as vintage only once it has stopped distributing it for sale more than five years ago.

If you would rather have something newer for the same money

An iPhone 13 at ₹27,000 is a 2021 phone. At the same money, a newer Android is a different trade — more RAM, a bigger screen, USB-C, and a longer update runway. On our shelf right now, all refurbished: the Samsung Galaxy A56 5G 128GB — Midnight Blue (Refurbished) at ₹25,199, the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro 5G 256GB — Grey (Refurbished) at ₹25,199, and the iQOO Z11 5G 128GB — Aurora Green (Refurbished) at ₹28,799. The full list is on our refurbished mobiles page.

Whatever you buy from us goes through a 41-point bench check before it is listed, is graded to a published standard you can read at condition grading, and ships free to every pin code in India. Cash on delivery only — no advance, no COD fee. Six-month warranty and seven-day replacement. The IMEI of the exact handset you are sent is printed on your invoice, so you can run that government check yourself the day the parcel arrives.

Common questions

Does the iPhone 13 still get iOS updates in 2026?

Yes. Apple's own support page listing iPhone models compatible with iOS 27 includes the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini. Some Indian price-tracker pages claim its software support has ended; Apple's list contradicts them. What the iPhone 13 does not get is Apple Intelligence, which Apple limits to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer.

What is a fair price for a refurbished iPhone 13 in India right now?

Roughly Rs 26,000 to Rs 29,000 for a clean, fully working 128GB unit. Checked today, Budli lists 128GB at Rs 26,999 and 256GB at Rs 28,999, and Cashify lists 128GB at Rs 28,699. Apple launched it in India at Rs 79,900 in September 2021. Anything far below the ₹26,999 Budli charges today usually means a swapped part or a problem IMEI.

Can I still buy a brand-new iPhone 13?

Not from Apple. Apple publishes no discontinuation date; Wikipedia records the iPhone 13 being discontinued on 9 September 2024, alongside the iPhone 15 Pro. Indian price-tracker sites still show a new price, but they disagree with each other and mark the stock as discontinued or out of stock, so those figures are not a useful benchmark.

What does an iPhone 13 battery or screen replacement cost in India?

Apple India does not publish a fixed price. Its battery and screen service pages both say the product must be inspected before it gives a personalised estimate. Independent chains do publish rates: iTweak lists Rs 4,199 for an iPhone 13 battery and Rs 17,699 for an OEM-quality display or Rs 11,499 for a standard panel, on pages updated in August 2026.

How do I tell if the screen or battery has been swapped for a non-genuine part?

Open Settings, tap General, then About, and look for Parts and Service History. Apple tracks the battery, display, logic board, front camera and rear cameras on iPhone 12 models and later. Genuine means Apple parts and process; Unknown means the part is not genuine or is not working as expected; Unverified on the logic board can affect features such as Apple Pay.

Does GradeGuard check the IMEI against CEIR before shipping?

No, and no seller should ask you to take that on trust. The IMEI of the exact handset dispatched is printed on your invoice, and the government CEIR check is free and takes about thirty seconds. Run it yourself the day the parcel arrives. If something is wrong, the seven-day replacement covers you.
